Biological and Psychosocial Factors Impacting Outcomes

IFECMH Knowledge Area

There are many environmental and biological factors that can impact the developing child. Professionals that receive the IFECMH endorsement possess the knowledge needed to inform and support parents with regards to certain circumstances like trauma and nutritional concerns.

Some of the competencies that must be achieved include:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the effects of medical risk factors, health, and nutritional concerns for the infant and toddler with disabilities or risk concerns.

  • Considers the impact of stress and trauma on development and learning.

  • Supports family/caregivers to respond to child’s cues and preferences, including sensory processing needs.
