Ethics

IFECMH Knowledge Area
Due to the sensitive and personal nature of working with children and families, it is essential that the ethics of the practicing professional be taken into consideration. An IFECMH endorsement highlights a professional’s ability to recognize and demonstrate ethical practice within the scope of their specific field of expertise.

Some of the competencies that must be achieved include:

  • Maintains professional ethics, including recognizing scope-of-practice parameters of one’s own discipline.
  • Maintains appropriate boundaries in interactions with co-workers and families.
  • Recognizes and supports the cultural beliefs and values of families.

Visit the California Center for Infant-Family and Early Childhood Mental Health website, http://cacenter-ecmh.org/professional-development/training-guidelines-and-personnel-competencies/, for a complete list of the required competencies.
